Atithi Indian is a family-owned Restaurant that specializes in “home cooking” Indian food. This cozy restaurant offers great prices, decent portions and good service.
Their food is much lighter than the Indian food I’m used to, less heavier because they use less oil and cream.
The restaurant is fairly small, only about a dozen tables, so the setting it’s quite intimate.
While we waited for our dinner we had some complimentary papadums and chutney. There were two types of chutneys on the table tamarind and coriander. They were perfect. The tamarind chutney was perfect, so sweet and tangy, and the papadums was crispy and fresh.
For dinner we had two great curries: The Lamb Palak (lamb medallions folded into a spinach curry sauce). The lamb was so tender and the curry was spicy and delicious. Each dish comes with jasmine rice, naan and salad. We also had the Chicken Chettinad (chicken marinated in chettinad paste and coconut milk). This dish was very spicy, but if you can handle the heat its very, very good!
For dessert we had the Rasmalai (ricotta cheese in sweeten milk). This one is my favourite East Indian dessert. I love a good rasmalai and this one is one of the best I’ve ever tasted. We also had the Gulab Jamun (sweet dumplings soaked in sugar). This dessert came with a chocolate treat as well, it was delicious. Gulab Jamun has a tendency to be extremely sweet, but this one was just perfect.
This was one of the best East Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was delicious, and the prizes are unbelievable. For a limited time, they are offering their curries for $10 on Monday nights, so there’s no excuse for you no to try this little gem!
